A valiant effort by our boys saw them cling on to a win, despite a Castelldefels comeback as the heat took its toll.
Wearing their new strips for the first time, Lasswade made all the running in the early stages, against a team who had at least six players who were 17 years old and some sported beards that even Fidel Castro would be proud of.
A drizzle of rain at kick-off offered Lasswade a good omen, and despite a greasy ball, they threw it wide early on to score three early tries out on the flanks.
However, our Spanish hosts clawed their way back into the match. Unfortunately for Liam Greig, he had left his kicking boots at home, and only one of Lasswade’s tries was converted. The Catalonians however were slotting them home with ease. This benefit allowed them to grab on to our tails, and there they stayed throughout.
The second half was more closer as the heat began to sap our players strength. However, Lasswade’s physicality began to show, as their bigger and older players started to fall by the wayside – either that, they had jobs to go to!
Impeccable refereeing by, the last minute and hastily arranged official, Senor Markie allowed the game to flow at pace and evenly. As he too, began to wilt under the heat, both teams were delighted to hear him blow for the end of the match.
The under 15's certainly did themselves proud, not only on the pitch, but off it too with great behaviour at all times. Well done boys!
On the scoresheet for Lasswade were Niall Morris (2 tries), Liam Greig (1 try and 2 conversions), Max Harding, Colin Barrance and Jack Sutherland, a try apiece.
Final score: Castelldefels 31 v Lasswade 34.
